Day 12 When life gives you lemons make lemonade right? If that’s true then we’ve been given two whopping great bunches of lemons!
When Rory died we did some pockets of fundraising and gave money to two wonderful charities who helped us – 4Louis and Sands. When Henry died we’d already signed up to a Sands event to walk a mile in our shoes so some money went there in Henry’s memory. But these short term gains weren’t good enough for my boys so taking the lead from my amazing mummy who, by quietly doing her thing has raised hundreds of pounds for the bereavement midwife team I decided that we needed to do something to help others. This something had to also be a tribute to our boys by helping but also telling people they existed.
Our thing is Butterfly Books for Baby Loss, it is our lemonade, something to sweeten the blow of an unimaginable loss. I’m currently walking 10,000 steps a day to raise money for our project. Using some of the the money mum has raised we have donated our first batch of baby books to gift to families and we have funded a small library of books for the bereavement suite at the hospital. The money I raise will carry it on.
I’m enjoying the challenge, my knees not so much! I’m on my lunch break having a walk in the sunshine and aiming to rack those steps up!
